Free PC anti virus protection for non commercial users is Avast! Home 4.8.
Free PC firewall provided by PC Tools, Vista Ready
This firewall is good and simple. Easier to understand than most. I don’t care for PC Doctor, but it will let you install the free firewall without it. I do not think it does any better then Ad-aware.

DO NOT use Zone Alarm, drags internet performance and adds folders and monitoring of email handler programs.

For spyware and malware removal on my computer system I use “Ad-Aware”

A free program that looks for spyware and malware for Vista PC’s is Windows Defender, while its not a great program, it does okay and if free to download and install on XP. It’s automatically included on Vista.

A program that I use for secure deleting of files on a 32bit system (most computers) is Scar5 Simple File Shredder
